About

Elm Psychology

Welcome to Elm Psychology.

We are dedicated to empowering children and young people in education and fostering joy in learning. We focus  on creating a safe and secure environment for those aged 0-25 to explore their strengths in education and learning, and meet challenges with increased confidence and support from the adults around them.

Additionally, we specialise in EMDR trauma-focused therapy for those aged 18 years and over, promoting healing and resilience across the life course.

Meet Dr. Emma Mercer

Emma trained in Educational and Child Psychology at The University of Sheffield, and was awarded her doctorate in 2020.

After working for a number of local authorities during her training and after qualifying, she

established Elm Psychology at the end of 2022 as a way of being better able to provide bespoke support to children, schools and families.

Before deciding what she wanted to do when she grew up, Emma worked predominantly in the care and education sectors, often with looked after and let down kids, and this remains a specialist area of interest, alongside social, emotional and mental wellbeing assessment and support, children in adoptive families, and children with acquired brain injury.

Her interest in supporting those impacted by trauma across the life course led to training in EMDR, and this is currently provided for adults, with the therapy hopefully being offered to those under 18 later in 2024.

Emma is a HCPC registered psychologist and you can find her on the register by searching her name, or the number PYL38502.
